Come Join Us for Our Revival of Odets' Tony Award Winning Play!

'Awake and Sing!' tells the story of the Bergers, a lower-middle-class, three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the Depression. While all living under one roof, the parents’ scheme to manipulate their adult children’s relationships for their own gain, while their children strive toward their own dreams. Over the course of this starkly dramatic and vividly comic play, Odets explores the impact that status can have, and the need to maintain appearances even in the most desperate of circumstances. Odets, who described his play as "a struggle for life amid petty conditions," captures the frenetic, pressured existence in this crowded dwelling with robust authenticity.

Director: Sam Robards

Sam Robards studied acting and appeared in several Off-Broadway productions and numerous television series before making his screen debut as Molly Ringwald’s suitor in Mazursky’s 'Tempest'. He has starred alongside Kevin Costner in 'Fandango', and with Joanna Pacula in Lewis Gilbert’s 'Not Quite Jerusalem'. Along with this, Sam has acted alongside Michael J Fox in 'Bright Lights, Big City' and 'Casualties of War'. Sam is returning to the Crested Butte Mountain Theatre after success with his play 'The 39 Steps' to direct what is anticipated to be the production of the year.
