Come Join Us for Our Revival of Odet's Tony Award Winning Play!
'Awake and Sing!' tells the story of the Bergers, a lower-middle-class, three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the Depression. While all living under one roof, the parents’ scheme to manipulate their adult children’s relationships for their own gain, while their children strive toward their own dreams. Over the course of this starkly dramatic and vividly comic play, Odet explores the impact that status can have, and the need to maintain appearances even in the most desperate of circumstances. Odets, who described his play as "a struggle for life amid petty conditions," captures the frenetic, pressured existence in this crowded dwelling with robust authenticity.
