Crested Butte Mountain Theatre holds a two and one-half week Summer Intensive Theatre Workshop for Youth every year at the Mallardi Cabaret Theatre. Two sessions are available for youth ages 7-12 to learn skills in everything from monologue delivery, scene study, musical theatre, focused listening, creating your character, setting the stakes, playing for victory, scene partner teamwork, vocal projection, storytelling in song and much more.
Each discipline provides a unique chance for students to hone his or her creative skills and thrive in a safe and joyful environment of play and practice. This is also a great opportunity for youth visiting for the summer to take advantage of professional theatre training in our inviting mountain environment.
At the end of our workshop series, the students will pick one of their 3 projects (monologue, scene, or song) to perform. The goal of these workshops is to provide age-appropriate professional training in the art and craft of stage performance for all youth of Crested Butte.
Crested Butte Mountain Theatre believes in the power of the arts. Our youth programs are aimed at recognizing the diversity of our audiences, exposing children to a wide range of ideas and experiences and insuring future audiences. Theatre participation teaches us leadership, decision-making, and communication skills; gives exposure to a variety of literature and broadens our mental horizons and encourages independent, creative thinking. Theatre also teaches body awareness which develops motor skills, posture, and grace in movement.
We believe Arts in Education programs to be an integral part of a community.
