The Crested Butte Mountain Theatre is excited to bring
you its latest production, Don
Juan in Chicago, by David Ives. This extremely
funny comedy begins in 16th Century Spain where we
see Don Juan as a knowledg,e hungry young man. Fearing
that he doesn't have enough time to learn all that
the world has to offer, he conjures up the Mephistopheles
in order to cut a deal. He will live forever.sort of.
What's the catch? He must seduce a different woman
every day. If he sleeps with the same woman twice
or fails to find a maiden, his soul goes to hell.
In order to keep his affairs in order, he signs his
servant Leporello up for eternal life with him. The
first woman he comes across is Dona Elvira, his true
love. After the deed is done he tells her that he
can never be with her again. Outraged and scorned,
Elvira makes a deal of her own that she will live
forever until she sleeps with Don Juan again. Fast
forward to modern day Chicago. It's been 400 years
and Don Juan is still at it. With midnight fast approaching
and available women being scarce, the Don must decide
between eternal hell and a loveless existence.
There are many newcomers to this cast. Charlie Brister
makes his stage debut by tackling the role of the Don.
Jason Boursier assumes the guise of the wise cracking
servant Leporello. Stage veteran Tricia Seeberg brings
to life Mephistopheles, the Devil herself. Kat Hassebroek
comes back to the stage as Dona Elvira. Once again
drawn to the stage, Darlene Egelhoff and Paul Nelson
play the neurotic and perverse Sandy and Todd. Joanne
Knox and Andy Bettinger play the adorably innocent
next door neighbors Zoey and Mike.
Brent Laney assumes the role of Director for this
production. Fresh off of her Marmot win, Sharon Reimer
takes on the costume design. Jason Repko, Jamie Stambaugh,
and Cricket Farrington all make their design debuts
doing Sound, Lights, and Set respectively.
