The Disappearance of Daniel Handby Dan O'Brien
November 1-4, 2006
A Teens On Stage ProductionGenre: Drama |
| Have you ever wanted to disappear?
Daniel Hand disappeared, but he left behind some
clues: a note, some video artwork, and a school
full of conflicting impressions and theories.
When Shannon, an aspiring filmmaker, starts shotting
a documentary about the enigma of her missing
classmate, she learns he was an athlete, honor
student, artist, drug user, and perhaps a religious
fanatic. Can she believe all the labels the other
students are trying to slap on him? Is Daniel,
Shannon, or anyone else what people perceive
them to be? |

A
Christmas Story
Adapted by Philip Grecian
December 14-16, 20-23, 27-30, 2006 Genre: Family Comedy
|
Humorist Jean Shepherd's
memoir of gorwing up in the midwest in the 1940s
follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest
to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree
for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before
his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus
himself at Goldblatt's Department Store. The
consistent reponse: "You'll shoot your eye out."
All the elements from the beloved motion picture
are here, including the family's temperamental
exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully;
the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold
lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin;
Ralphie's father winning a lamp shaped like a
woman's leg in a net stocking; Ralphie's fantasy
scenarios and more. A Christmas Story is
destined to become a theatrical holiday favorite.
This play has been cast. But if you'd like to be involved with this production, please contact Brent
Laney. The production needs an array of off-stage help with set design, costumes, lights, and more. Be a part of live theatre! |

Original
Plays
"Shakespeare in Space"
May 31-Jun 2, 2007
Genre: You never know...
|
Crested Butte Mountain Theatre
is pleased to present its Original Play series.
We present plays written by locals, directed
by locals, and performed by locals - all in a
wonderfully comfortable setting, allowing the
novice director or actor to try her hand at a
new skill. (Your friendly CBMT web developer
has even sat in the director's chair.) The Original
Plays provide anyone with an interest in writing,
directing, or performing in a play the chance
to do so. We encourage everyone, because usually,
everyone gets a chance. These are short plays,
too. So you might direct more than one, appear
as an actor in more than a couple, or show up
briefly if you want. It's all about being involved
and having a blast!
This year, CBMT is looking for twist in the classical
genre of the written works of William Shakespeare.
Everyone is invited to submit his and her own written
and titled version of this classical spin. Click
here to find out how to submit and what the rules
are.
Auditions were held in mid-April, but it's possible
we still need actors. Please contact 349.0366 to find
out.
Submissions are no longer being accepted. Thanks to
all who submitted and to all who are participating.
If you'd like more info, please call us or email. |

Jerry
Finnegan's Sister
By Jack Neary
June 28-30, July 5-7, 11-14, 2007
Genre: Contemporary
|
| Brian Dowd has spent the
last 10 years of his life wrestling with an unrequited
"something" for his best friend's sister.
But each and every time he's spoken with Beth
Finnegan for more than 30 seconds, he's ended
up with his foot in his mouth. Now, Beth is about
to get married and Brian's time is running out.
In a series of fast-moving, hysterically funny
scenes, two actors portray Brian and Beth from
ages seven and six to the present. |

Reefer
Madness the Musical
By Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney
August 16-18, 22-25, 29-September 1, 2007
Genre: Musical/comedy
|
| The story begins with a Lecturer
informing the audience of the new drug menace,
Marijuana. He tells the Harper Affair, a story
of a young high school student whose life is
turned upside down by the "demon weed." He spends
all of his time in the Reefer Den ignoring his
family, school, and most importantly his girlfriend.
Jimmy's sudded addiction even draws the interest
of a Tom Jones-like portrayal of Jesus. He realizes
the error of his ways too late. His girlfriend
is shot and killed. It is over the top and campy.
The script is fun, and the songs are hilarious
and catchy. |
