Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's
1976 book The Uses of Enchantment, this
Tony Award winning musical might not be exactly
what you think. A happy ending is had but not
before many of your favorite fairy tale characters
go through hard lessons. The main characters
- taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and
the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella - are
tied together by an original story involving
a Baker and his wife and their quest to begin
a family. This is no simple fairy tale, with
plot twists, turns, character hook-ups and a
few murders and deaths.
We are pleased to have Shoshana Partos come back
to Crested Butte to direct this production. Shoshana
is a past artistic director of CBMT and has been
an active part of the the theatre community since
1994. This
production will be produced in conjunction with
the Crested
Butte Music Festival, using world class musicians,
and will be held at the Center
for the Arts Crested Butte. The June 25 dress
rehearsal will be a pay-what-you-can event. It'll
be a great opportunity to see the play at a reduced
price and give the cast its first taste of audience
reaction.
Check back for ticket information. They'll go
on sale sometime in mid-to-late May.
