Reefer Madness: The Musical has been cast! We're
excited to bring this lively comedy to you and hope
you come out for it.
Based on a somewhat misguided notion that marijuana
addiction can cause a teen to commit murder, rape and
other felonies, this play is based on a 1936 film titled Tell
Your Children, which was financed by a small but
heartfelt church group that wanted to scare the daylights
out of parents. A perhaps less known fact is that it
was purchased not long after its release by a fellow
named Dwain Esper (a notorious exploiter of film) who
took great liberties with the documentary and distributed
it on the "exploitation circuit". You really should
visit the official Reefer
Madness: The Musical website to
read more. Some of you might be interested to know
that in the 1970s, a fellow named Keith Stroup (founder
of National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws)
bought a print of the film, cleaned it up and started
showing it at pro-pot festivals. This entrprising little
project allowed him to start a film company called
New Line Cinema. Perhaps you've heard of it?
Enough with the history though. Here's a brief synopsis.
If you've seen the movie, see the play anyway. If you
haven't seen the movie, wait for the play first. Then
be thoroughly entertained by both. Brent Laney directs
this production with the stellar cast listed below.
He still needs backstage assistance as well as folks
to operate lights and sound. So drop him a line at
