The Puzzle - Reader's Theatre
August 23 & 24, 7:30pm
Crested Butte Mountain Theatre will present the second Reader’s Theatre production of the year with Bob Puglisi’s revised play The Puzzle. Directed by Bob Puglisi, The Puzzle is a celebration of Ernie Kulak’s life. It mostly takes place on Ernie’s last day and the people in which he shares that day--his actor son (Sam) read by Andrew Hadley, an aging sexual consultant (Linda Lovemore) read by Debra Reich, a religious zealot (Jeremiah) read by Tuck, his oldest and dearest friend (Phil) read by Eric Ross, and his lovely granddaughter (Nickie) read by Nola Hadley. Harry Woods will be reading the role of Ernie.
The play was inspired by the time the playwright/director, Bob Puglisi, spent with his father in the last weeks of his father’s life. On occasions, Bob’s father would come along with him on acting auditions. One particular day as they sat in a casting director’s waiting room, Bob’s father leaned over and asked if the other people in the room were all actors because they looked like real people. Somewhat amused, Bob told him actors are real people. This play is dedicated to the fond memories and times that he shared with his father.
Bob Puglisi has had a varied background from computer programmer to technical writer, actor, screenwriter, playwright, producer, and librarian at the Old Rock Library in Crested Butte. In the IT industry, he wrote close to 100 technical manuals and training classes for major corporations. He has had his stage plays produced in Los Angeles and at the Mountain Theatre in Crested Butte. His acting credits include stage, film and television. Some of his memorable TV roles were on MATLOCK with Andy Griffith, HILL STREET BLUES, and THE TONIGHT SHOW with Jay Leno. Bob has been involved with the Mountain Theatre ever since his arrival in Crested Butte in 1998 as a board of director, former board president, as a writer, actor and director.
Bob has also written a number of full-length screenplays. In 2000, he received a fellowship from the Colorado Council on the Arts for his screenplay BIG WHITE BONNEVILLE, which he produced as a short film that toured the film festival circuit around the country. Several years ago, he completed a biography, ALMOST A WISEGUY, about a friend's life in the Mafia who was also an alcoholic and drug addict, soon to be published as an e-book. He has recently published his first novel, a love story that spans the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. In it, Tommy DiNardo is willing to kill to avenge the murder of the woman he has loved since he was five years old. RAILWAY AVENUE is available as an e-book on Amazon.com and soon to be available on Barnes and Noble for the Nook.
The play will be read two evenings at the Mallardi Cabaret Theatre at 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, August 23rd and 24th. All seats are $10 and can be ordered by calling the box office at 970-349-0366 or by going online at cbmountaintheatre.org.
