Summer Theatre For Youth Workshops
June 16 - July 2 Weekdays only
At CBMT, we believe in the power of the arts. Our youth programs are aimed at recognizing the diversity of our audiences, exposing children to a wide range of ideas and experiences and insuring future audiences. Theatre participation teaches us leadership, decision-making, and communication skills; exposure to a variety of literature broadens our mental horizons and encourages independent, creative thinking. Theatre also teaches body awareness which develops motor skills, posture, and grace in movement. We believe Arts in Education programs to be an integral part of a community.
Workshops are broken down into age group:
7 - 11 year-olds from 12 noon - 2:00 pm for $225/youth
12 - 18 year-olds from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm for $250/youth
Workshops run weekdays June 16 - July 2.
Nichole Reycraft is a local with a strong love for the town and community she grew up in. At age fourteen, CBMT’s artistic director, Chad Robinovitz, introduced her to the wonderful world of Theatre and her life has revolved around the stage since then. Twelve years later, Nichole has participated in community shows, Western State Peak Productions as well as independent theatre projects around the valley. She is a Communication major at Western State with an emphasis in theatre. She has done extensive training in Theatre for Social Change under the incredible tutelage of Dr. Karin Waidley. CBMT has been an amazing and creative outlet for Nichole and she is grateful for the friends (that are now more like family) that have become her support team.
Nichole’s passion for the creative arts is rivaled by that of her love for working with children. Nichole has spent the last seven years working for Stepping Stones. In 2010 she co-directed CBMT’s Teens on Stage, Reviving Ophelia with Kim Goodrich which was a wonderful, heartwarming and eye opening experience. She is incredibly excited to once again be able to combine her love of the stage with her love of kids this summer for the Children’s Summer Theatre Program.
The goal of these workshops is to provide age-appropriate professional training in the art and craft of stage performance to the youth of Crested Butte.
Students will learn skills in monologue delivery, scene study, and musical theatre. Each discipline providing a unique chance for the student to hone their creative skill set and thrive in a safe and joyful environment of play and practice. Lessons will include Focused Listening, Creating your Character, Setting the Stakes, Playing for Victory, Scene Partner Teamwork, Vocal Projection, Storytelling in Song and much, much more!
Students need to bring one pocketed folder (for holding their monologues, scenes, and music) and a playful willingness to try something new! At the end of our workshop series, the students will perform a play or composite of their work.
Call 970-349-0366 for more information or with any questions.
